Tutorial: Creating Neighborhoods With SC4 Terrains
by the_new_simman | Tuesday, June 28, 2005

Well, for some of those people that arn't that good at figuring things out, I made a simple and easy tutorial to follow about using SC4 Terrains as Neighborhoods in TS2. Below is the start of the tutorial:

STEP 1: Start up Simcity 4 and create a new region. Name the region The Sims 2 Neighborhoods. You may use you own name if you like. Set the terrain type as Plains. Then click Create Region.

STEP 2: All that you have to do is create a city. Make sure you choose the Small sized city. Do not choose the Medium or Large because parts of your city will get cut off when importing it into Sims 2.

This is what your city should look like after creating it... biggrin.gif ^^

STEP 3: Before you name your city and everything you need to add some style into the city, meaning terraform. As you see in the picture below I put moutains and some trees in the map. These trees will show up in The Sims 2 when imported.

STEP 4: Now that you have created some mountains and planted some trees. Next, you should put some water or a river going through your city. The best thing to do when making you city is to put the mountains and water off to the edges. You will see why in the next few steps.

STEP 5: You are now going to establish your city. You can name it anything you want but I just used my username and the tutorial name. Keep it on easy mode, not that it matters but it is best to just set that option on easy mode. Then click establish city.

Now your city it Established, your city should look somewhat like the city below. biggrin.gif

STEP 6: After you have placed the water and all of that inside your city you now need to place the roads. You can place the roads in any given shape or size. One smart tip for you though, 1 tile in SC4 = 4 Tiles in TS2. Another tip is not to place your roads exactly to the edge of the map otherwise they will get cut off.

STEP 7: Go to the options menu and save and quit Simcity 4. You should now be on you desktop. Click my documents then go into these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions

Then choose the name of the region you just created. After that find you city name and open the folder. You should have something like this in that folder:

STEP 8: Now that you are in the correct folder you need to copy and paste the .sc4 terrain file into the correct Sims 2 Folder. Below is a picture of the correct folder the .sc4 file needs to be in.

STEP 9: Once you have copied the file into the correct folder you need to start up The Sims 2. Once you have started it scroll to the Create-A-Neighborhood Button. Click the button and there should be a list of cities.

STEP 10: Once you have the list of .sc4 files in front of you, like pictured below. You find the name of the file you created earlier in Simcity 4, then you click the triangle like button, or the play button.

STEP 11: Once you hit the play button another dialoge box will come up and ask for a name and description. You may or may not fill the description out. You may also name the neighborhood what you want. After you are finishedc with that hit the check button. After you hit that button the neighborhood will begin to load.

Here are some photos of the final product:

Well, those pictures pretty much show the layout of the roads, but you can kind of see the mountains sloping up in the last shot. I hope this tutorial helped you a lot. Look for my next tutorial on creating simple but appealing houses. Coming Soon to a Browser Near You! Also, look out for some others coming too.

If you are having trouble with this tutorial and it is not working please post in this thread or PM me, thanks.
